Monique Howard was a starting point guard for the Houston
Womens Basketball League(HWBL). Her team, the Houston Angels, won
the HWBLs first Championship in August 1997.
They competed in the first round of the 98 championship in April. She currently plays for the H-Town Expression
of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL).
Howard is a native Houstonian and graduate of Sam Houston
High School. Her natural physical talent and intuitive playing style earned an
opportunity to play basketball for Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina,
Kansas. She was recognized as a college All-American, MVP,
and selected All-Conference.

Howard played the last year of her eligibility at
Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO, after accepting her coachs invitation
to join him there. Her team, the Lady Hawks, shared the district
championship title. Howard was named "Newcomer of the Year"
and earned her second All-American selection. Afterwards, she returned to Kansas
Wesleyan and received her degree in Criminal
Justice.
Howard is extremely community spirited. She grew up in Ryon Addition, a
community surrounding Hardy Street, on the out-skirts of downtown Houston. She is
currently the volunteer Athletic Director of Ryon
Sports, a youth and cultural program provided by the Hardy Street Community Enrichment Center. She has helped
raise funds for the Muscular Dystraphy Association and the
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Howard has spoken to hundreds of Houston youth
including juveniles enrolled at the Harris County Boot Camp
for Juvenile Offenders. She served as a volunteer
athlete and workshop facilitator, for former Houston Oiler Alonzo Highsmith's "Back-to-Basics" Football Camp.
